Doctor of Philosophy in Martial Arts

 

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in  Martial Arts is a unique research-oriented degree programme.

 

This doctorate degree by research aims to train professional martial artists to explore their philosophical thinking in specialized research area of law, management, tactics & strategy, and martial arts culture.
 
Course Structure

 

Research degree in Doctorate level is awarded following the successful completion of a period of research, including the submission of a thesis based upon a research project together with a series of article writings/assignments in related subjects/modules of the degree programme supervised by qualified tutors. The final thesis must be a topic area in martial arts with substantial content that is worthy of publication to demonstrate the student's knowledge and understanding of the field of specialization. Before publicizing the final thesis, students must submit and pass all article writing papers or written assignments of all subjects of the related degree program. Then, the final thesis should be in a specific topic relating to martial art skills and tactics for publication purpose.

 

Course Duration

 

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Martial Arts can normally be completed in 3 years. However, students may apply for subject exemptions, if they possess and can demonstrate competency in the core subject(s) of the degree program. Under the university’s discretion, if exemption(s) is/are granted, the duration to complete The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) will be less than 3 years.  Also, students may shorten their research period and length of thesis submission if they have already had publications and research work before, e.g. textbooks or VCD/DVD...etc.
